Wine Research is tough. Hours of grueling tastings and gourmet meals in some of the best wine regions in the world. But I endure so you dear reader can share the wine experiences of the Wine Matchmaker.
The latest expedition is to the McLaren Vale and Barossa Valleys in South Australia. Those Familiar with the Wine Matchmaker will know that every two years the Wine Matchmaker, Mrs Wine Matchmaker and some good onephile friends normally do the Barossa Vintage Festival over Easter, in fact we have done it for the last 10 years at least. Alas this year the organising committee, in their wisdom, decided to move the Festival away from Easter which has prompted us to create our own Festival and include the McLaren Vale this year.
For those new to South Australian Wine Regions the Barossa is Australia’s (Worlds?) premium Shiraz growing region about one and a half hours drive north-west of Adelaide, a region we know well and have many fine wine making contacts. The McLaren Vale on the other hand is only about 45 minutes south of Adelaide and is better known for its blends although it makes excellent Shiraz. It is not a region I have visited before although I have drunk much wine from the region over the years.
So over the next week or so please look out for various post of the wineries we visit and some quirky experiences you have come to know and love from the Wine Matchmaker.
